Well, speaking of “not messing around”, KYMCO has planned a 1381 mile scooter journey from their HQ in Spartanburg South Carolina to the event in San Antonio over the course of four days.  The ride will begin in Spartanburg on May 23rd and end in the basement of the Alamo in San Antonio, TX, just in time for Amerivespa, May 27 – 31, 2010.  Maybe while you’re there you can help Peewee find his bike.

If you’ve been keeping up with AmeriVespa, you know KYMCO has been a big supporter of  for the better part of the decade and they want to support YOUR journey to the event by paying for your gas along the way!  That’s right, if you join the KYMCO posse at any point in the journey, they will pay for each day’s fill up.  If you join them from the HQ, they’ll even cover your $75 registration fee!  Nice, eh?

ANNND, speaking of registration, if you’re planning to pay for your own you’ll need to git to it!  Only 10 days left before registration closes!

Well a more approachable option for you might be The Australian Postie Bike Challenge.

The event is a 10 day ride across Australia (October 3 through 13, 2009) and a fund raiser for several different charities that are encountered along the route. The unique thing about this challenge is what is supplied to the participants:

For a little less than $5,000 AUD they supply you with a Honda CT110 “Postie” to ride, fuel, meals, support truck and crew that follow you on your 3,000 to 4,000 mile journey across the Outback. You can travel in packs or alone, fast or slow, whatever floats your boat. Check out their FAQ for additional details.

The video covers most everything about the 22,000 mile trip; the concept, interviews, scenery, scooter community, elements of nature, mishaps and the godawful process of packing/unpacking everyday.

I sorted through 15 hours of footage and worked on it for 3 days.

It is my first endeavor at sitting down to make a good video. I learned a lot this round and hope that I can integrate that knowledge into some future projects. I used iMovie and had to shuffle clips between computer and external hard drive. Before compression it was 28 Gigs.

*My apologies that the sound and audio DON’T line up in the beginning. Extracting audio and moving it up didn’t help either. Hmm.

What do you get when a band of 20 Dutch (Hollanders, Niederlanders, les Hollandais) philanthropists ride a benefit for the children of Indonesia in the United States on French mopeds?

“It’s like ‘we are the muphuckin’ WORLD‘ up in this b!+¢h! THAT’S what you get.”, says “It’s like We Are the World on 2-wheels”, to paraphrase longtime scooter advocate Steve Guzman, editor of the popular 2-wheeled website TheScooterScoop.

In one week (that’s 3 days after the big G1 google Android phone announcement), this courageous group of Dutch riders from the Solex Club will depart from Steenwijk, Holland and eventually arrive to deluxe accommodations at Chicago’s Super 8 Motel. The next day they will meet at Hollywood “Throw a kit on that bitch!” Holt’s hangout, Warbux Mopeds, to prepare for the grueling 2666 mile journey across Route 66.

They plan on arriving in Santa Monica on October 22nd for a big celebration to be held by Big Ass Motors. Steve E. is a BIG Velo Solex fan, so it only makes sense. Anyone still alive after the ordeal will return to Holland on October 24th to tell the tale of their fantastic journey.

It’s been a week now and I’m finally getting around to this post. It was GREAT to have Alix back in town for some BBQ & Beers for peace. It seems like it was yesterday that Alix, Heather and I were riding up to Crawford, TX to deliver Alix’s message of peace to the commander in chief.

As for the title of this post… Alix, hats off to you my dear. You are making history and I’m proud to be a tiny part of it. Heather, some of the most hardcore riders I know are women and that includes you. Thanks for being the only one with the cojones to join me for that ride to Crawford and back. I’d love to join you for the Cannonball, but frankly… it scares me.

I’ve been making my rounds today; calling a bunch of dealers and I’m finding that all across the lower half of the US the weather is shaping up to be Ab Fab! I, myself, am looking out of my window with longing eyes. Cut me loose from this headset! I’m ready to RIDE!
