When the Vespa Club of America (VCOA) throws a scooter rally, they don’t mess around. With the help and hard work of the host city’s scooter players and tons of sponsors, you can expect to see 600+ AmeriVespa attendees riding scooters and mopeds of all shapes and sizes. Heck, you’ll probably see motorcycles and cars there too! (You did know Vespa made cars, right?).

Well, speaking of “not messing around”, KYMCO has planned a 1381 mile scooter journey from their HQ in Spartanburg South Carolina to the event in San Antonio over the course of four days. The ride will begin in Spartanburg on May 23rd and end in the basement of the Alamo in San Antonio, TX, just in time for Amerivespa, May 27 – 31, 2010. Maybe while you’re there you can help Peewee find his bike.

If you’ve been keeping up with AmeriVespa, you know KYMCO has been a big supporter of for the better part of the decade and they want to support YOUR journey to the event by paying for your gas along the way! That’s right, if you join the KYMCO posse at any point in the journey, they will pay for each day’s fill up. If you join them from the HQ, they’ll even cover your $75 registration fee! Nice, eh?

ANNND, speaking of registration, if you’re planning to pay for your own you’ll need to git to it! Only 10 days left before registration closes!

For details, see the Facebook Event information on the KYMCO Scooter page: www.facebook.com/KYMCO.Scooters. RSVP to Scoot2TX@kymcousa.com and tell us which day(s) you can join them, make your own hotel reservations, and we’ll see you on the road!

I’ll catch up with the action when the Posse arrives in Austin, TX. We all go out for Torchy’s and a Shiner when you get here on Wednesday, May 26th!

HERE’S the trip schedule:

Just in case you haven’t been following along, here’s the update on the coast-to-coast MadAss journey. Phil & James have just past the halfway mark; that’s about 1600 miles since they started just 4 days ago. The Dr. MadAss crew have braved frosty temps and high altitudes to make it this far, they really deserve a round of applause.

I know they’ve got their sights set on a Chicago arrival tonight. Will they pull it off? Stay tuned to the DrMadAss site to find out!

Well by “World” we mean the USA and by “Mad, Mad” we mean madmen taking the Sach Madass across the whole freaking thing. Phil “POC Phil” Waters is no stranger to the scene. He’s been riding scooters as long as I’ve been shaving (my back) and also owns one of the most successful scooter shops in the country… so, what would possess him to take Cobra Powersport’s latest 125cc import scooter (or is it a motorcycle?) from San Diego to Annapolis in 10 days (or less)?

Because he can.

While the MadAss 125 may be a newcomer in the USA, the MadAss design has been around a while. We first caught wind of the MadAss back in 2005 , when Sachs reentered the US market with their solidly built but sadly underpowered MadAss 50 (our first video scooter review). Now that they’ve brought us something with a little extra kick, Phil wanted to be the first to see how she stands up to 2800+ mile journey.

As of publishing this story, the POC team has completed day 2 of their journey. You can keep up with their progress by visiting the website of Dr. Madass. There you will find photos, satellite tracking of their journey and stories from the road.

If you are anything like me, you saw Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boreman in Long Way Round and thought to yourself “Self, you need to go on an epic, continent-spanning adventure on a bike!” It’s at that point your brain kicks in and you imagine dying in the desert from exposure and snake bites.

Well a more approachable option for you might be The Australian Postie Bike Challenge.

The event is a 10 day ride across Australia (October 3 through 13, 2009) and a fund raiser for several different charities that are encountered along the route. The unique thing about this challenge is what is supplied to the participants:

For a little less than $5,000 AUD they supply you with a Honda CT110 “Postie” to ride, fuel, meals, support truck and crew that follow you on your 3,000 to 4,000 mile journey across the Outback. You can travel in packs or alone, fast or slow, whatever floats your boat. Check out their FAQ for additional details.

Truly a chance for a life-changing experience. Are there other similar events here in the US? Please drop us a line and let us know!

It is my first endeavor at sitting down to make a good video. I learned a lot this round and hope that I can integrate that knowledge into some future projects. I used iMovie and had to shuffle clips between computer and external hard drive. Before compression it was 28 Gigs.

*My apologies that the sound and audio DON’T line up in the beginning. Extracting audio and moving it up didn’t help either. Hmm.

Ok, Cheers to all.
Alix
————
I’m still blown away by your achievement Alix!
But, wow, stop and think about it! 22,600 miles later, traveling roads that aren’t fit for a scooter, I’ve done it, carved a huge Peace sign onto the map!

Wow! Alix I’m am awestruck by what you’ve accomplished. There was a cause for the greater good and you stood by that cause for over a year and nearly the circumference of the entire earth. Helmets off to you my friend.

I didn’t understand the connection at first. Scooters and Peace. But after I thought about it I could see some logic… Using less resources could mean less fighting over those resources. Then I saw this video and it finally sank in… “Whatever you do, just do it for peace.” – John Lennon

Cheers to you Alix, on a job well done and cheers to our good men and women overseas who are doing their jobs so they can come back home and live in peace with their families.

It’s been a week now and I’m finally getting around to this post. It was GREAT to have Alix back in town for some BBQ & Beers for peace. It seems like it was yesterday that Alix, Heather and I were riding up to Crawford, TX to deliver Alix’s message of peace to the commander in chief.

As for the title of this post… Alix, hats off to you my dear. You are making history and I’m proud to be a tiny part of it. Heather, some of the most hardcore riders I know are women and that includes you. Thanks for being the only one with the cojones to join me for that ride to Crawford and back. I’d love to join you for the Cannonball, but frankly… it scares me.
Here’s to the both of you!

I’ve been making my rounds today; calling a bunch of dealers and I’m finding that all across the lower half of the US the weather is shaping up to be Ab Fab! I, myself, am looking out of my window with longing eyes. Cut me loose from this headset! I’m ready to RIDE!

Speaking of which we’ve got some AWESOME and SWEET rallies and rides coming up in Texas this month. First is:

Had a… um… “blast” last year. SERIOUSLY! It’s really hard to beat a rally with cute monkeys and cold Bloody Marys. I wish I could make SANDBLAST II. Yes, TheScooterScoop is a sponsor but we ran into a major schedule conflict. SOOO SAAAD! Please go and have fun without me. *Snif snif* I know some of my Hooligans will be there as will the lovely riders from Houston Scooter Battalion, The Filthy Few SC, The Sunday Punchers as well as good ol’ Piston Broke, SC Golden Triangle, The Royal Bastard SC, Alamo Scoots, The Ne’er Do-Wells… did I miss anybody?

I WILL, however, be able to make San Antonio’s 7th Annual Spring Fling on April 27th. See ya there!
